72 HOUR KITS FOR MISSIONARIES

THIS IN FROM FACEBOOK:

We had the sister missionaries over for dinner. They are a companionship formed after the split of a mission or two. Each sister told of how their mission presidents (from two neighboring missions) had a meeting with other M. Pres. in which a GA told the presidents to have the missionaries get 72 hour kits put together. The missionaries were told to have a back pack with a change of clothes, food and a few other essentials in preparation for "an earthquake and riots" These sister missionaries are taking it very seriously and don't want to worry their parents, so they are not going to tell them about it. I am wondering if this is what all mission presidents across the US are being to told from GA's, right now, or if it is currently just for Utah. Have any of you from other states heard of the missionaries doing this right now? I was surprised that one sister even said she feels strongly that an earthquake will happen in Oct.

  1. A 72-hr kit has been encouraged for ALL members to have. Even local community leaders in most areas (non-LDS) encourage 72 hr. kits. With the wild fires now burning, unrest and riots, flooding, toxic train derailments and many other disasters besides "earthquakes" make this a wise decision. When an "individual believes an event is to happen on a specific date", best we allow them to feel it - but look to our own promptings. I remember this author was heavy into reporting "dreams, impressions, etc." of Ogden being "nuked" last year. If any one had family in the Ogden area, this is very unsettling. It all proved to be for not. Trying to read more into something being directed by the GA can bring more chaos than direction.

    1. I am fully aware that we are all encouraged to have 72 hr kits, but the author of the article made it sound like earthquakes and riots were imminent and that was the reason why the kits were being secured.. Just trying to determined if thie is factual information.

  5. Iraq, I was talking with an old bishop of mine, we were discussing all the speculation surrounding September and October of this year. He mentioned to me to that he is slightly concerned that so many have placed emphasis on something happening this fall, that if it doesn’t, people will be disappointed and possibly lose faith. Or at least it’s easy for some to fall into this trap. Because the Lord did not work in the time frame we had hoped or thought he would. However, I responded that I think perhaps just as great a danger, if not more, is “what if it does happen?’ Will the many of Saints look at pastors like Cahn and Biltz and say “Hey they got it right!” and “our prophets never said or warned us like they did!”. Thus setting up a situation where many could fall prey to false prophets, and be lead away into dark paths. Now having said that, I like Cahn and Biltz, and I’m not saying they are false prophets, but they are not the Lords appointed priesthood leaders. I do believe they carry the Lords voice of warning. However, it could be easy for any of them to cross the line, between voice of warning to false prophet. They do carry a message of warning, but it is the Prophet and he alone that has the right to direct Gods work on this earth. Anyway it is just a little food for thought as we approach coming months ahead. If things do happen as some secular leaders are saying, I hope the saints will not be swayed as to who it is, that is in charge and who the Lord has truly chosen to lead in these last days! any thoughts?

    1. Good concern. It saddens me when people of strong faith begin to falter when we as a bishopric feel prompted to do certain things or call "less desirable" members to certain positions and it does not match their agenda. The trouble with being human is, well, human weakness. Most everyone has little hiccups on the road to exaltation, including (perhaps especially) me. Yet it's still sad. And oh so very rewarding when people get back on track.

  6. Yes, the prophet does lead and is chosen and appointed. However, he is appointed by the Lord. It is the Lord who is in charge. There are only two churches, the church of the devil or the church of God. Everything that can be shaken, will be shaken. Only that which cannot be shaken will remain. Sorry I should have put this in a reply format, but I don't want to retype it and my computer is not cooperating! Jessica

  7. Resident of Sandy Utah and spoke with Elders in our Stake about 72 hour kits. They have not been asked to have them, they do not have them and they said in case of an emergency they are told they need to get to the District building for safety.
