I TAKE PARTICULAR INTEREST IN HONEST SEEKERS OF TRUTH AND BELIEVE THAT SCIENCE IS REVEALED RELIGION'S BEST ALLY. HYRUM SMITH - ON RESPONSIBILITIES OF VOTERS
Wow - if there was ambivalence before, this might set things ablaze...... I had no idea that Hyrum was so fiery:
Joseph Smith faced the same situation, so he ran for office. I need to study his election pamphlet. I've read it once and felt it was some of the greatest things I've ever read in regards to government.
I'll tell you what I did after much prayer and contemplation when I felt like there was no candidate worth voting for. I either wrote in the name of a person who had been running and I thought was the best choice according to the Gospel and U.S. Constitution, and where there was no decent candidate to choose from I wrote in the blank space. "None of the above". One must keep in mind... your vote is not just for here. My vote also counts with the Lord. If I write in "None of the above," I have cast my vote. I am essentially telling the Lord; Lord, my vote is for none of these men. None of them are suitable. None of them are righteous. None of them are Godly men. I personally do not vote for the lesser of two evils. As Prophet Ezra T. Benson said, it is still voting for evil. Don't do it! I felt like for me personally, the Lord gave his stamp of approval for my voting decisions. But, this was the answer to my prayers. These were my personal impressions from the Spirit. Yours might be different.
So... what to do when there is no candidate you feel you can truly trust?
