For the first time, yesterday, I thought this could actually happen (with what is erupting over in Syria). This in from FB:
There has been some recent discussion on whether the prophets have taught the concept of the Saints being invited to gather to places of safety. Here are three more recent examples:
1) Yesterday's Howard W. Hunter Lesson #3:
"I promise you in the name of the Lord whose servant I am that God will always protect and care for his people. We will have our difficulties the way every generation and people have had difficulties. But with the gospel of Jesus Christ, you have every hope and promise and reassurance. The Lord has power over his Saints and will always prepare places of peace, defense, and safety for his people."
2) Elder Robert D. Hales General Conference talk four months ago:
"One of the purposes of the scriptures is to show us how righteous people respond to temptation and evil. In short, they avoid it! Joseph ran from Potiphar’s wife. Lehi took his family and left Jerusalem. Mary and Joseph fled into Egypt to escape Herod’s wicked plot. In every instance, Heavenly Father warned these believers. Similarly, He will help us know whether to fight, flee, or go with the flow of our unfolding circumstances. He will speak to us through prayer, and when we pray, we will have the Holy Ghost, who will guide us. We have the scriptures, the teachings of living prophets, patriarchal blessings, the counsel of inspired parents, priesthood and auxiliary leaders, and, above all, the still, small voice of the Spirit.
"The Lord will always keep His promise: “I will lead you along.”The only question is, will we let ourselves be led? Will we hear His voice and the voice of His servants?"
3) President Henry B. Eyring in the October 2015 Ensign, which was the fourth time this talk has been printed in the Ensign since 1997:
"There seems to be no end to the Savior’s desire to lead us to safety. And there is constancy in the way He shows us the path. He calls by more than one means so that it will reach those willing to accept it. And those means always include sending the message by the mouths of His prophets whenever people have qualified to have the prophets of God among them. Those authorized servants are always charged with warning the people, telling them the way to safety."
