Search deeper & deeper into the mysteries - the Prophet Joseph Smith
I advise all to go on to perfection and search deeper and deeper into the mysteries of Godliness. A man can do nothing for himself unless God directs him in the right way; and the Priesthood is for that purpose. . . . it has always been my province to dig up hidden mysteries, new things, for my hearers.
The Church only teaches the milk of the Gospel.... members thinking they already have all they need to get them back home will be sadly disappointed... My cousin & I have tried to teach the meat & their was a great pushback with those quite happy where they were in their current textbook knowledge & if you crossed the line you were reprimanded like you were an apostate..... Few there be that enter the way & many are called but few are chosen.....
ReplyDeleteWe had a lesson in Sunday School today in that the instructor, as a missionary in a old Soviet Block country described how he had prepared himself as best he could for a discussion, after getting on the bus he and his companion recognized they were on the wrong bus as it was leaving the city. As he inquired of the Lord he had a firm direction to stay on the bus he met with, I suppose the investigator met them and to make a long story short he and his companion found themselves on a military base without a pass and ended up in prison for a few days. He stated that what should have been the most miserable time of his mission was the time he felt most at peace knowing that things would work out. The rest of his mission was the worst part as being the poster-boy for not following mission rules and having to live under that pal because he had followed the Lords directions.
ReplyDeleteThere are times when we will have to be the fool and accept it and forge ahead anyway. It's called character - to carry on without blaming others or having vengeance is called Meekness. I would refer people to Rudyard Kipling's poem "If"
In reference to The Mysteries, has the church not warned us to not become caught up in the Mysteries, or the making of Religion a hobby. I remember these statements as far back as the 70's. - I ignore them. That said, I know of people who do overdo it in these areas, but they are a minority. Sooner or later people are going to have to deal with a lot that does not make sense that they took no effort to understand and yes they will be dumping a load in their britches. Our job is to assist and help best we can.
