Russian troops are displaying a new arsenal of body armor, individual
weapons, armor-piercing ammunition and collar radios — a menu of
essential gear that gives them a big tactical advantage against a
lesser-equipped Ukrainian army.
If President Vladimir Putin orders an invasion, the new-generation body armor, in particular, would provide exceptional protection against small arms if Russian troops go street by street to capture Kiev and other cities.
“What we saw and what was dangled in front of the West was a clear indication that Putin is on a roll,” retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Robert Scales said. “It just seems to me from watching the films that their arrows are pointing up and ours are sadly pointing down.”
Weapons specialists such as Gen. Scales have been studying images of Spetsnaz, Russia’s ubiquitous special forces, and airborne troops since they conquered the Crimea region and mobilized to strike eastern Ukraine.
What they see are the fruits of a modernization plan begun in 2008, not just in tanks and vehicles but all the way down to the individual warrior. Russia now has the world’s third-highest defense budget, at over $70 billion.
“They’ve got better equipment than they had five years ago,” said Scott Traudt, an executive with Green Mountain, a Vermont gun manufacturer. “They’ve got new grenade launchers that are awesome. The helmets are better than our helmets. The body armor is better than our body armor. They’re doing a lot of things right. I’m pretty amazed at it.”
Mr. Traudt is paying special attention to the body armor because it presents a big challenge to rifle and munition makers. It might be able to deflect NATO’s basic 5.56 mm rifle round. If so, Ukrainian soldiers face a daunting task because their AK-74 assault rifles fire a similar munition.
The Russians, in their new 6B43 model body armor, issued chest and back plates made of titanium and hard carbide boron ceramics.
“The stuff they have is impervious to 5.56, whereas our body armor is not completely proven against their weapons,” Gen. Scales said.
Gen. Scales said the Russians carry AK-74s whose magazine is loaded with 5.45 “steel core” ammunition — a round that on April 8 the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives banned from importation because the agency deemed it armor-piercing.
Gen. Scales described the 5.45 as “extremely lethal against any kind of body armor.”
While some national leaders focus on big defense issues, Mr. Putin has taken a personal interest in one of the smallest: the rifle. Last year, his government consolidated rifle manufacturing into one new firm, the Kalashnikov Corp., named after the AK’s famous inventor, Mikhail Kalashnikov.
“Putin actually goes out and shoots these things,” Gen. Scales said.
U.S. soldiers have complained that their main rifle and round, the M4 carbine and its 5.56, lacked lethality in Afghanistan against a Taliban enemy that does not often wear body armor. Without a shot to the head, the enemy could take several 5.56 hits and keep going, soldiers said in surveys.
“If the Russians are coming across mechanized, with airborne and infantry units wearing their body armor, it basically means the Ukrainian rifles have no ability to penetrate the body armor worn by the Russian troops, meaning you’re talking about having to shoot somebody six, seven, eight times, in the chest,” Mr. Traudt said. “They’re going to get bumped, but there’s no lethality involved.”

I am telling you, that sack of brown poop is going to betray this nation in our absolute worst hour. I at least want to see the video of when he gets his. He hates this nation - and most likely will be gloating when it collapses.

I live practically next door to it. I have personal witness of the deception used in even aquiring the land and rights. I believe I was supposed to see it so that I would know who was NOT good. I watched money (ak federal grants ...getting thrown at my city and the neighboring cities for years... that were unprecidented. The Mayor of Saratoga Springs at the time was Mayor Timothy Parker...who never asked why? But I did. I asked why all the time...why are they granting free money to this little town to expand... there were dozens of red flags... In my calling at church i saw red flags. Including words said by President Packer at a regional talk at the time...about the original place that the Johnson's Army threatened the saints from for TWO solid years. That historic army camped on the same land so they could moniter the saints in both counties...the same place. I asked everyone in politics at the time...Why did we get federal money to widen roads, build new infrustructure...millions...just handed to us...from the feds...when we could not get the state to look at us. Whether or not you believe me doesn't matter to me. But it was Gary Huntsman who was govenor when it was announced three years before Herbert even ran for govenor....and not long afterwards Gary was offered the chance to be an abassador to China... So he either...took a buy off (who ever quits being govenor? Ever? That is the road to presidential elections. He either took his dream job, as a bribe or as a distraction so he wouldn't see it...Or ...he knew he needed to run to not get entangled with the NSA) either way... it was a tail tucking of epic porportions... Herbert was appointed as govenor when Huntsman headed out. (well maybe that you could point fingers at...but it was already in play) And I also happened to be in DC for my brothers wedding the day they announced they were moving a portion of Camp Meads Spying and Data collection to Camp Williams. It was front page news in the Washington Times. A full year before anyone was reporting on it in SLC. For all I know, besides the govenor...i may have been ground zero for the news. I remember calling from DC all the city leadership at the time...and reading and re reading the story to them over the phone.....and saying... and now you know...why! They were all shocked. None of them knew about it..not even the mayor. I was overwhelmed and scared and stressed out. And I was just a citizen... i was furious at the state and local leadership at the time...and Herert was NOT even on my radar. If you want the honest truth...I don't think any man will ever destroy that building. I honestly... after prayer and fasting and seeking to understand. I believe that building will literally be used by evil intenders to make literally war with the saints. I believe it is prophetic in nature...because President Packer was warning about it...almost mine months before the story leaked in DC. That building is built on a fault line that runs between two counties...when it is stopped I honestly think the Lord will be involved. I have had my own personal experiences that surround that building, enough to say... Evil men want that center...not good men. The bombing you are worried about is FAR more likely to occur out at the weapon grade chemical depot in Tooele, or the Airforce base where we store nuclear grade weapons...up north...or even the plant way up north where we make and sell Rocket Fuel. I do that because I am horribly paranoid, if you could not tell....lol Actually, I have limited time (because I am rooting around the internet on my glowing box for new material) and am old school in that I like to try to respond to most correspondence, if possible. Also, I DESPISE spam. If in power, I would make it punishable by some sort of fine if someone objected.
When writing and including your e-mail, please add two comments. One with your e-mail and one with your comment. I will figure it out. If you put it all in one comment, I cannot publish it to protect your privacy from bots and stalkers. She was at the EOTW Conference and is just one of the best people I have ever met. Next conference that I plan in the area, I will try and open up generally.
