And for the smug reader who keeps making snide comments about the Mp - dude, get a life. The guy is factors more accurate than I have ever been. Get a clue. People that are not LDS can be gifted beyond comprehension. The same smugness got the Jews in Lehi's day in a world of hurt. I can only imagine how they reacted after Jeremiah and others had gone silent and righteous Patriarchs of the day (like Lehi) then donned the sack-cloth and went about warning others until it became too dangerous for them to do so. Yes, the MEMBERS of the church of the day were trashing on the other "Samuels" of the day in Jerusalem - and finally they pulled up stakes and split.
The idiots that were too smug to listen were sitting in a volley of arrows a while later. Their wives were raped, their children killed before their eyes after being starved, beaten and killed. Their leader saw all of (the known) heirs-apparent killed before his eyes, before they were put out with a hot poker and he was dragged off to a Babylonian prison to rot the rest of his days. This was the payment for insolence. One who had the power by kingly decree to entertain the Prophets and make their word and works, the word of the land, did nothing of the kind - and so a stiff penalty was paid.
In likewise manner, many will suffer for their smugness and insolence and, in their hour of need, will raise their eyes to heaven and ask why they were given such a hard thing to bear. The heavens will remain silent. The solution was given far in advance and it was ignored and thrown by the wayside like so much trash.
Time is oh so short.
I just got done telling a manager I have known for years some of what is coming. She was polite and respectful and may do something about what I shared. So many, who should know better, have acted derisively. That is fine. Like I tell my kids - you can choose how you would like to act; you simply CANNOT choose the consequences of those actions. Life can be a cruel master if we choose poorly.
It wasn’t just members of the church. It was the leadership that has caused problems here in the Americas during Christ’s life. 3 Nephi 6:27 says the high priests—such as bishops and stake presidents—united with the Gadiantons. We are in a sad state of affairs because so many members of the church are failing to live up to their potential.
ReplyDeleteWhen I teach the occasional Gospel Essential class I try to emphasize the necessity of personal revelation, a solid testimony, and a commitment to follow the prophet because it is very probable that these new and returning members will see well respected and highly visible church leaders leave or be excommunicated. (I can pray for Harry Reid). Will they be committed to the Lord and the gospel, or to church and people?
ReplyDeleteThere is a pattern in the BofM and it's in there for a reason, it's a type and shadow of what will happen in our day. The type is that the Lord will send one of his holy prophets, called by his own voice, from outside of the traditional channels of expected authority. The Lord called Lehi to call the Jews to repentance. Lehi was not one of the "brethren" of the day. Then we have Abinadi. He was not one of king Noah's high priests, and yet the Lord called him to call the people of king Noah to repentance. And then we have the example of Samuel the Lamanite which is interesting as well because at the time the Nephite people had Nephi as a prophet.
ReplyDeleteObviously these are all types for the Son of God amongst the Jews. They would ask Jesus were he got his authority.
Anyway, back to the BofM and the types included for us. The reason these types are in there is because the same thing is going to happen in our day. The Lord will again test his people to see if they will recognize his voice, no matter where it comes from.
The question is will we recognize a true prophet sent from God, or will reject him again like Samuel, Abinadi and Lehi?
