THE OPRAH-IZATION OF GOD'S DEFINITION OF LOVE

There is little more that bothers me in my life as much as hearing a fluffy member of the Church expounding on the saving principles of the "principle" of unconditional love. I cringe - and, if taken to some new extreme of adoration of this "grand concept", I start to get physically ill.

Things are so contorted when it comes to how God operates and how we need to interact with our children that we have an entire generation of screwed up kids in the church because parents do not teach their children the concept of personal accountability and tough love; bad actions = bad consequences. Do the crime - do the time. Simple as that. We get so fluffy and grey in our approach that children that are trying to find their own way never know exactly where the bounds are that the Lord has set and what will be their outcome if they cross those boundaries. Kids hate their parents later in life (and then themselves), because they coddle them and will not do the difficult thing that needs to be done to help the child help themselves.

Here is a great piece on the need for God's boundless, yet conditional love:

As I always say, 'There ain't no such thing as a free lunch'...... That's the devil's doctrine and one that will lead someone straight to hell in a heartbeat.

  1. Of coarse you don't believe God loves all his children unconditionally - you seem to relish the idea that "soon" he is sending a destruction that will kill millions and millions of them (those who don't see things in the same literal, black/white, carnal way as you! (How nice it will be to for you to live in a world without all those you think are wicked!)

I hate that my first comment on your blog is so negative. There are certainly many positive things I could have written about other posts over the last few years that I didn't. But this view is so opposite of all my study/searching/understanding that I had to respond.

  2. Anon - glad you feel to speak honestly. I do not relish in the thought. In fact - I am horrified to think of this coming destruction - when it comes to the innocent who are swept along with the wicked. I feel sadness for the wicked who will not feel to repent and come unto Christ with full purpose of heart and be saved (temporally and spiritually). I simply submit to God's will - which is that we must obey all of His commands or we will be swept from the earth. There are so many wonderful people that I know. I just told two more people tonight during a fire drill with several other unknown co-workers listening on. I cannot bear the thought of having not told as many people that know me well enough to at least give me a hearing for themselves. I have been putting myself out there in a major way - to the point that if nothing does happen (and it will...), it would be best not to come back, it will be so humiliating. I would not do it unless I loved my fellow man (mostly the non-wicked) more than I love my reputation, etc. The wicked (in the traditional sense) would not even give heed to this kind of tripe - I don't even bother. God does not love us unconditionally. There have always been stipulations. He didn't say "I will give you rest regardless of what you do". He said, "COME UNTO ME (approach me in the spirit of humility and obedience) and I will give you rest." That is clearly a conditional statement based on our willingness to come to him. Where God's love is unconditional, is that it is a blanket call to ALL of his children - not just the special ones in the favorite clique. Sorry you were offended. I know that eyes can be opened to God's true intent as you continue to study and remember that before Christ came to the Nephites, he first allowed the bad ones to be wiped out, then approached those who remained weeping for them and what they had to go through. I am just regurgitating the principles that I feel He operates under. Just as there was a division in the Church in the days when Christ was alive - which ultimately led to His death, there will be another division in our time which will cause a gulf between those who were doctrinally correct and those who were "off". The gulf widens and we see these disparate doctrinal differences begin to wedge former doctrinally cohesive folks apart.

  5. Wow, two people in a row (or one in the same) who are serious Oprah lovers.... Not into New Ager bull puckey since its the new one-world "religion" of the new world odor. Personally, I think it stinks - and anyone who purveys it can go to the curb on trash day......
