Did you know that the Salt Lake Stake was the 12th Stake of Zion organized? The earlier ones were ALL dissolved, as the Saints were driven out.
The twelfth time's the charm?
The earlier stakes, in order, were:

Adam-ondi-Ahman

Zarahemla
Lima
Quincy
Mount Hope
Freedom
Geneva
Springfield
In these names I see new hope and optimism being dashed over and over. But the Saints persisted. Brigham Young declared when they arrived here that if their enemies would leave them alone for ten years, they would never be able to root out the Saints again. (And he got it. Ten years to the day, Brigham got news of Johnston's Army coming.)
He later said, "We are a mystery and a stumblingblock to this generation. One man will say, 'What a numbhead that Brigham Young is!' and another that 'this people are dupes and fanatics;' and yet no man can controvert, with sound argument, the principles we advance. Excellent post, IRAQ. This helps illustrate the principle of enduring to the end, never giving up in spite of difficult circumstances, never giving up on God or Christ. (They never give up on us, after all. (Although, we are free to reject their invitations...)
ReplyDeleteBack to the virus... I believe you mentioned visions of glory spoke of 3 waves. I really believed that this wasn't "the virus" he spoke of and thought things would clear up soon. Now I keep hearing from my medical friends anticipate 3 years... not necessarily a lock down for 3 years but a open/close phase over the 3 years.
