Abraham, having a wicked father, was under no duress or obligation to obey his counsel after an attempt on his life, etc
The SECOND half of that command (the promise portion) is: that thy days may be long in the land. When you are dealing with righteous people, they pass along good values regarding life, chastity, lying, cheating, stealing, etc. When those good values are rejected, the people set themselves up for a cleansing - or to be swept from the land. Usually, as the Book of Mormon teaches, there are multiple iterations of the repentance cycle and, in the end, human nature usually prevails and there are sweeping actions. The earth is LITTERED with civilizations that fell. In some areas, the stone wreckage is 30-40 thick, or more. Or the volcanic ash is 60' thick (in the case of Vesuvious, etc) and people wonder after the wreckage. The formula is ALWAYS the same. You find in each of these destroyed places, signs of depravity from homosexuality to adultery (orgies, etc) to collapsed society due to crime/violence. What you rarely see is the story of the group of people who were led out.
In this is my point. In order to make it into the Millennium, you have to have kept (or profoundly repented of sins at variance to, the Law of Chastity). And thus the great push of pornography and every specie of sin related to that law. The adversary is working overtime to tear it down and seal as many his, as is possible. He knows time is short.
During the Millennium, for those whose lives are spared; who were led out, etc and who have the privilege of populating the earth during that 1,000 years of peace (survival of the spiritual fittest - at it's finest), those will then learn to live Consecration to it's fullest and will be allowed to qualify for the prize above that; which is Celestial living.
So, as I have said before. In order to make it over "the hump" and into the good zone, we need to avoid that very thing in it's illicit form....
I will post that scripture once again:
3 But, wo, wo, unto you that are not pure in heart, that are filthy this day before God; for except ye repent the land is cursed for your sakes; and the Lamanites, which are not filthy like unto you, nevertheless they are cursed with a sore cursing, shall scourge you even unto destruction.
4 And the time speedily cometh, that except ye repent they shall possess the land of your inheritance, and the Lord God will lead away the righteous out from among you.
5 Behold, the Lamanites your brethren, whom ye hate because of their filthiness and the cursing which hath come upon their skins, are more righteous than you; for they have not forgotten the commandment of the Lord, which was given unto our father—that they should have save it were one wife, and concubines they should have none, and there should not be whoredoms committed among them.
6 And now, this commandment they observe to keep; wherefore, because of this observance, in keeping this commandment, the Lord God will not destroy them, but will be merciful unto them; and one day they shall become a blessed people.
7 Behold, their husbands love their wives, and their wives love their husbands; and their husbands and their wives love their children; and their unbelief and their hatred towards you is because of the iniquity of their fathers; wherefore, how much better are you than they, in the sight of your great Creator?
And why will the righteous portion of the Lamanites be victorious once again in this land? Verse 6 and 7 specifically. They have kept that law - or have a general propensity to keep that law (hold the anecdotal stories, please). It is a "Joseph thing", which goes all the way back to Potiphar's wife. Some traits are borne forward through each generation. Just as Judah was a skank - so have his posterity been a wicked and adulterous bunch (along with the French and a bunch of other cultures.... ah, I love generalizations)..... so much so, that Jesus called them out on it many, many times and named it as the reason for a hard head and spiritual ineptitude that would cause them to blow past the very Son of God and miss the obvious.....
So, there you have it. Stay as true to that law as you can. It is for your own physical and spiritual safety.....
