JEWS NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR LEATHER SHOES WHEN ASCENDING TEMPLE MOUNT

Sounds like things are heating up at Al Aqsa.  If you plan on going there to protest tomorrow......, the word is out that you should not wear leather shoes.

I think this has to do with Moses removing his shoes when standing on holy ground - and there is a brief reference to it in the endowment session as we "pass" from a telestial state to a terrestrial state.

Here is some more information on the Jewish practice:
All who ascend the Temple Mount, whether man or woman, Jew or Gentile, are encouraged to wear non-leather shoes. This follows the understanding that we are visiting the Mount as pilgrims to the Holy Temple, and pilgrims do not enter into the hallowed area of the Mount in leather shoes. All plastic, rubber, canvas, or man-made materials are acceptable. It is also acceptable, and even praiseworthy, to ascent the Mount barefoot; however this is not always allowed by the police.

  1. The Lord to Moses.
Exodus 3:5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

Thanks for the reference to the endowment. I've always wondered why we didn't have to do it too prior to entering the Celestial kingdom .
