So, as you might guess, I do not get out that much. I would much rather record things on this blog than hit the theaters for some good old Hollywood Great and Spacious entertainment.
I believe in putting my money where my mouth is and my mouth is no where near Hollywood.... other than to rip on what it has become; a cesspool of every kind.
But, I am a child of the 80's and I believe I saw some version of Ferris Buehler's Day Off and other classics like Top Gun (although, I think our local theatre played the spliced versions of the films because when I later looked at both of those, the language was atrocious). The only way I can watch it today is on Vidangel, where the worst of the language and the sex/nudity is cut out. We love Vidangel...
In the original Top Gun, it was not super realistic and I just love tearing the film apart with the poor directing and editing. The story line is classic, though. Even with all that, it is still a movie that I can watch over and over again.
The new one is intense from start to finish and it seems pretty realistic from many standpoints. It was also relatively devoid of sex and a constant stream of bad language. Quite a feat for a movie involving the Navy.
The stuff that scared me the most was that it is clearly a propaganda piece designed to prepare the minds of the masses to accept an attack on Iran (whether it is us, or Israel). Iran is the only nation that still has operational F-14 Tomcats (the planes that were used in the original Top Gun). They were sold to Iran back before the Ayatollah Khomeini and Iran Hostage Crisis in the late '70's happened. They have been keeping them operational because they are amazing planes and it is all they have from the West. Anything else they might have would have to come from Russia or China since they came online post Cold War.
Clearly, the site that was under attack was depicting the uranium enrichment site in Iran. The defensive missile batteries were the S-400 and now the S-500 systems that Russia supplies and that are not really possible to defend against because they are that good. I am not really sure how our 5th generation fighters stack up against what Russia and China are now putting out. I know we currently cannot defend against China's ship-killer missiles and China has managed to steal enough hypersonic missile tech that we now are up a creek without a paddle in that arena. We also have no true defenses against the Russian nukes once they are at apogee because one ICBM can release up to ten individual warheads, each of which is individually steerable (and have guidance radar to detect interceptors) as they coast into their target and no longer rely on an expected ballistic profile, as with the old previous gen tech.
With the nuclear doctrine being modified by Clinton, that changed from MADD to "absorb the first strike, then used what is left to retaliate", we were sold out by those children of hell. That may have been okay on a temporary basis for anything coming out of any parts of the former Soviet Union that may have gone rogue, due to instability - but it is no longer valid since power was consolidated and all missiles were then accounted for. Under the existing crappy doctrine, the Russians and Chinese know that they need to do a ground burst with a big enough bomb to cause a column of dust and debris to rise to 60,000 feet and then anything we try to launch into that cloud (if the communications, etc are not already down and it is even possible), will cause the nose cones to erode and, at boost speeds, plasma will enter the missile body and knock out guidance systems or just melt the airframe and the missile will break up. This very thing is what took out the shuttle over Texas. Plasma forming at those speeds will do in virtually anything. This is what is depicted in the first part of the movie when the test article is taken to Mach 10+.
So, the average American walks away from that thinking patriotic thoughts and chanting "USA, USA!!" while not realizing we are sitting ducks and we have indeed fallen behind in critical areas. Provoking the USA in an attack on Taiwan and a possible simultaneous S. Korea attack with us responding by sending many carrier groups over there and into a trap is foolhardy. They can take them all out. The Chinese have been practicing in drills in their west deserts with full-sized representations of our aircraft carriers. They know what they are doing while those who have sold out in the military turn a blind eye, with our complicit clown asshat sellout in the whorehouse.
When you suddenly see Iran/N.Korea/Taiwan go hot in conjunction with what we already have in the Ukraine, you know that it is finally going down and can expect attacks soon on the mainland in the USA in order to take down command and control and create the greatest possible confusion.
It WILL happen, just as prophesied. I will be watching the nay-sayers with interest as they attempt to spin the reality that has now become their nightmare. Same thing with real food insecurity as the drought in the Southwest and the Imperial Valley worsens, rolling brownouts and coupon rations of certain things begin to set in. At some point, it will be a little to little, a little too late.
