So, I am part of a group where there is a gal who absolutely hates BY (likely for his actions regarding polygamy). The same gal has left the Church obviously - and seems to be able to say nothing good about it, including the Temple and tithing. She specifically calls tithing a "pay for play" ploy; in other words, the Temple is a scam to get people to pay for the privilege of being sealed to their spouses, etc.
Of course, I see it completely differently. Many of these folks have no clue about the origins of tithing other than it is found in D&C 64 and 119, etc:

Truly, there is more to it, as my wife has pointed out:
Isaiah 6:13 refers not to a regular tithe, but a tithe of the tithe. If you are a Jew and know your Hebrew or know your Hebrew, you realize that this is not just a tithe, but a tithe of the tithe that the original Hebrew translation is using, so thus this meaning: 13 And while yet a tenth of the people
remain in it, or return,
they shall be burned.
But like the terebinth or the oak
when it is felled, whose stump remains alive,
so shall the holy offspring be what is left standing.
Although people may flee the cities en mass in Jehovah’s Day of Judgment, they find scant refuge in the countryside (Isaiah 5:30; 8:22). Using the imagery of tithing—in which the Israelites pay a tenth of the land’s yield to the Levites and the Levites pay a tenth of that tenth to the priests (Numbers 18:24-28)—Isaiah contrasts the many who perish with the few who survive. The “holy offspring” left standing—a tenth of the tenth—compares to a terebinth or oak that can renew itself when cut down. The one who fells the tree/s is the king of Assyria/Babylon, Jehovah’s axe and saw (Isaiah 10:15; 37:24).
Here is an exaplanation showing the example of the tithing (to the Levites) and the tithe of the tithe" (toHere is an exaplanation showing the example of the tithing (to the Levites) and the tithe of the tithe" (to the Priests, Kohen): "Terumat hamaaser was given by the Levite to the Kohen, and was one-tenth of what the Levite had received of the first-tithe. ReplyDeleteIn this video this sister has a NDE and encounters Satan who appears to her as a false Christ and teaches her many false doctrines. This False Christ teaches her that Christians should not pay Tithes to churches and ministries. When the True Christ appears in his glory bearing all of the fruits of the spirit and casts out the false Christ. She is taught many things. One of those teachings is the importance for Christians to pay their Tithes.
Many Christians believe that the law of Tithing was done away with after Jesus Death on the cross. While that may be partially true we do read in Matthew 23:23 and Luke 11:42.
that Jesus taught that even though the pharisees were neglecting some of the more important laws of God, he still expected them to follow the other laws like Tithing.
Malachi 3:8 - 3:10
ReplyDelete8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Proverbs 3:9 - Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
Luke 6:38 - Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Mark 12:41 - 12:44
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
Leviticus 27:30 - And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD.
Malachi 3:8 - Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Matthew 23:23 - Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Luke 11:42 - But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Haggai 2:8 - The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.
Acts 20:35 - I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Deuteronomy 14:28-29 - At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:
Last week, in my ward we began the sacrament meeting talks about tithing, given it’s that time of year to ‘declare’ our tithes to be accurate. Can’t people see that tithing isn’t an eternal doctrine?! Tithing is a principle we practice while on this earth living the telestial law. When living in Zion, tithing will be a moot point. Also, another concern is our church’s interpretation of ‘meat’. I doubt our Lord meant ‘meat’ as great and spacious buildings and a paid clergy; both of those are described very clearly as evil in the BoM. “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be MEAT in mine house.” However, in the end, it’s not mine to decide how to use.
