Great stuff! Much stuff from him has been absolutely incredible!:
The earth is alive, conceives and came from its parent earths.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 6:36
Some say the earth exists without spirit; I do not believe any such thing; it has a spirit as much as any body has a spirit.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:172
Where did the earth come from? From its parent earths.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 6:36
Dr. [Willard] Richards used to lay his old black cane on a person's head, and that person has been healed through its instrumentality, by the power of God.... There are persons in this congregation who have been healed by throwing my old cloak on their beds.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:294
Will the President [James Buchanan] that sits in the chair of state be tipped from his seat? Yes, he will die an untimely death, and God Almighty will curse him; and He will also curse his successor, if he takes the same anti‑Mormon stand.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:133
I have noticed that a man who has but one wife, and is inclined to that doctrine, soon begins to wither and dry up, while a man who goes into plurality [of wives] looks fresh, young, and sprightly. Why is this? Because God loves that man, and because he honors his word. Some of you may not believe this, but I not only believe it but I also know it. For a man of God to be confined to one woman is small business. I do not know what we would do if we had only one wife apiece.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:22
I have known Joseph, hundreds of times, [to] send his handkerchief to the sick, and they have been healed.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:294
How much would you give for even a cane that Father Abraham had used? or a coat or ring that the Saviour had worn?
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:294
The rough oak boxes in which the bodies of Joseph and Hyrum were brought from Carthage, were made into canes and other articles. ... And the day will come when there will be multitudes who will be healed and blessed through the instrumentality of those canes.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:294
I have a cane made from the plank of [the prophet's coffin], so has brother Brigham and a great many others, and we prize them highly, and esteem them a great blessing.... And the day will come when there will be multitudes who will be healed and blessed through the instrumentality of those canes.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:294
In England, when not in a situation to go, I have blessed my handkerchief, and asked God to sanctify it and fill it with life and power, and [I have] sent it to the sick, and hundreds have been healed by it; in like manner I have sent my cane.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:294
Since I was eight years old I have had in my possession the cane.... It has all the virtues and power which have been referred to and it yet will be the means of blessing and healing thousands...
Heber C. Kimball, Heber C. Kimball, p. 257n14
Last nite I clothed my self and offered up the Sines [signs] of the Holy Preasthood and called one [on] the name of the Lord. He hurd me fore my heart was mad[e] comfortable. I inquired by the rod. It was said my family was well, that my wife would come to me in the East, and that Congress would not do anything fore us.
Heber C. Kimball, Heber C. Kimball diary, June 6, 1844, in Kimball, On the Potter's Wheel, p. 65
This brings to my mind the vision that Joseph Smith had, when he saw Adam open the gate of the Celestial City and admit the people one by one. He then saw Father Adam conduct them to the throne one by one, when they were crowned Kings and Priests of God. I merely bring this up to impress upon your mind the principles of order, but it will nevertheless apply to every member of the Church.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 9:40
I have learned by experience that there is but one God that pertains to this people, and He is the God that pertains to this earth ? the first man. That first man sent his own Son to redeem the world, to redeem his brethren; his life was taken, his blood shed, that our sins might be remitted.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:1
The Lord told me that Jesus Christ was the son of Adam.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Heber C. Kimball, v. 20, p. 17; also, Deseret News, March 11, 1857
If men turn traitors to God and His servants, their blood will surely be shed, or else they will be damned, and that too according to their covenants.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:375
President Young is our governor and our dictator. It is for me to walk with him, and for you to walk with those who go before you.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 7:19
In the spirit world there is an increase of males and females, there are millions of them, and if I am faithful all the time, and continue right along with brother Brigham, we will go to brother Joseph and say, "Here we are brother Joseph; we are here ourselves are we not, with none of the property we possessed in our probationary state, not even the rings on our fingers?" He will say to us, "Come along, my boys, we will give you a good suit of clothes. Where are your wives?" "They are back yonder; they would not follow us." "Never mind," says Joseph, "here are thousands, have all you want." Perhaps some do not believe that, but I am just simple enough to believe it.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:209
Brethren, I want you to understand that it is not to be as it has been heretofore. The brother missionaries have been in the habit of picking out the prettiest women for themselves before they get here, and bringing on the ugly ones for us; hereafter you have to bring them all here before taking any of them, and let us all have a fair shake.
Heber C. Kimball, The New York Tribune, May 15, 1860 and The New York Times, April 17, 1860
When we escape from this earth, (do) we suppose we are going to heaven? Do you suppose you are going to the earth that Adam came from? that Eloheim came from? where Jehovah the Lord came from? No. When you have learned to become obedient to the Father that dwells upon this earth, to the Father and God of this earth, and obedient to the messengers He sends‑‑‑when you have done all that, remember you are not going to leave this earth. You will never leave it until you become qualified, and capable, and capacitated to become a father of an earth yourselves.
Heber C. Kimball, On November 14, 1852, President Heber C. Kimball gave an address in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. The reference is J.D. 1:356
We often sing, "This earth was once a garden place," where God our Father dwelt, and took possession and a stand that mankind will take who attain to that honour....When he (Adam) planted the garden, he planted it with seeds he brought with him: and he also brought the animals from the earth he lived upon, where his Father dwelt.
Heber C. Kimball, The following is an interesting statement made by President Heber C. Kimball on June 12, 1860, delivered at Willow Creek. The J.D. reference for this is 8:243‑244
I have not a doubt but there will be hundreds who will leave us and go away to our enemies. I wish they would go this fall: it might relieve us from much trouble; for if men turn traitors to God and His Servants, their blood will surely be shed, or else they will be damned, and that too according to their covenants.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 4:375
The Lord told me that Jesus Christ was the son of Adam.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Heber C. Kimball, v. 20, p. 17
In relation to the way in which I look upon the works of God and his creatures, I will say that I was naturally begotten; so was my father, and also my Saviour Jesus Christ. According to the Scriptures, he is the first begotten of his father in the flesh, and there was nothing unnatural about it.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 8:211
The spot chosen for the Garden of Eden was Jackson County, in the state of Missouri, where Independence now stands; it was occupied in the morn of creation by Adam and his associates, who came with him for the express purpose of peopling this earth.
Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, volume 10, page 235
Great quotes! Thanks for compiling them.
ReplyDeleteHow would Jesus Christ be the first fruits and if all in Adam die, and you had a Father without a body of flesh and bones, who had to wait for his own son to be resurrected before he could be resurrected? Adam would have to be resurrected after Jesus Christ. Section 137 or 138 talks about Adam and others resurrected after Jesus Christ. Can a man be great at healing but not so great with church doctrine or is there a missing puzzle piece? Yet, how can a man be great with prophesy but not with doctrine? And seriously the brash tone is really difficult when you compare them to words of Joseph Smith and even modern day prophets. If 3/4 of these quotes above give me the creeps in their verbiage and tone, does that mean I fall to pieces like glass? Quotes like these push people to DoC mentalities. I feel like a lot of the leaders who lead the Saints out of Nauvoo’s persecution had post-traumatic stress disorder and their tone reflects consequences of being in charge of a group of people and what May appear as lack of logic, but that is also pretty arrogant. It flies in the face of what Joseph Fielding Smith’s First Presidency said. So it isn’t just me.
ReplyDeleteAdam is another name for God the Father Brigham Young said that in order to make a physical body your spirits and Adam would have to go there and an eve and they would begin to eat of the corporal plants so that they would be diffuse sufficiently through their bodies to enable them according to establish laws to give birth to a physical body that's how God the Father would be the father of Adam but also how the father is the Ancient of Days and Adam is also one of his names
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting how people had faith in certain objects to heal. I wonder where these canes are now? Regimented order as to how to heal with oil and blessing seems a bit different from the way things used to be. Has there been a loss of faith in these things by the Church leadership? Maybe it was considered to be passe and too much like the evangelical culture. I have read in the apocrypha accounts of the stories of Jesus as child in Egypt, where even the water Jesus was bathed in could be used for healing people.
ReplyDeleteI am at a point where I have to question everything that comes from Church Leadership past and present. I look to those who were tutored by Joseph to be closer to understanding the source. It wasn't until that link was broken by those who came after, gave into compromising.
Elder Widtsoe in a previous post would have us pay 10% of all our income as a tith, contrary to what Joseph had prescribed. People will say; well, Elder such and such, said this or that, and after that you don't need to consider it. It is all settled. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everything could be that easily set, we would not need to be challenged.
It is also interesting the rough talk, some may call it, also would come from Joseph in case anyone has not been paying attention. D&C 101 shows what the Lord thinks, not Joseph, what happens to a wicked government that should abuse the people, is outer-darkness - meaning they are sons of Perdition as far as I can tell, verse 91, real scary stuff if Mittens Romney and many others were paying attention. I'm sure there would many faithful members would be offended with that, particularly the younger members of the Church.
His quote "I have not a doubt but there will be hundreds who will leave us and go away to our enemies." is chilling... and evidenced even by some of the responses above. There are some who profess to belong to Christ's church, yet rail against what the leaders say and have said, not taking the time to search, ponder, and pray to get answers, context, and guidance from the confirmer and teacher of all truth: the Holy Ghost. Has it not occurred to some that "Adam" is not just a name, but a title? Open your minds and commune with the spirit when something causes cognitive dissonance. Our human and weak understanding is not perfect and no doubt there will be future instances when truth conflicts with our imperfect believe systems and traditions. When (not if) that happens, will you humbly replace what you thought was true with something that is true, or will you be offended, fight, and hold on to pride and tradition? This is part of the TEST.
