It is on the same escarpment that the bus station backs up against.
This escarpment had a Roman road running along the face of it in Jesus' day. He was crucified at Golgotha, not on Golgotha, along the Roman road as was the custom in the day. Peter, when crucified upside down in Rome, he was crucified along the Appian Way - the famous Roman road that leads up to the Arch of Titus which was the fabled entrance to Rome. Crucifixions in prominent places were done so that people passing along the road would "learn their lessons" and not partake of that particular crime.
