INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY LIVING

Folks, this has been one of my favorite things I have wanted to do as a life goal:

https://osrcommunity.com operation self reliance in Utah. Looking for 200 families who want to purchase and work 2 acres of land with water rights for $20,000 to co-OP together and grow "food". Must be debt free at some point. Pretty exciting project. Certifying organic, restoring bees, so much opportunity...

I do not have a big enough clan to do this as an extended family compound/community - but I really admire the Hutterites who have a tight knit grouping around a core.  Like a bee hive around the queen.  All houses face a common court where the children play and one mother is watching multiple groups of kids play and work.  It lessens the loads on individuals so that they are free to pursue their activities.  This is especially nice with younger kids.  Not so sure about the logistics with teens, etc.

I am not endorsing this thing, as I don't know the first thing about them - but I love the idea of people working together to accomplish great things.  The things that destroyed the United Order are wont to rear their ugly heads - but the notion of people working together as one (voluntarily), is a terribly romantic notion to me.  I long for it.

Likely, however, we will only have this thing when we are forced into it by force of circumstance, etc.  We are too proud, fiercely independent and reliant on the arm of the flesh and it makes us resistant to such a notion and practice.

One day, it will be a reality.  I look forward to it.

  1. Thanks for giving this a shout out. I have a friend whose husband will be moving out there later this year. I am so excited for them.

The co-OP sounds like a smart, educated group. Lots of ideas on how to make you successful but you will have to work your property and you are responsible for picking your crop, making it grow. They are putting in a school, retirement center, adding some acres for single moms.

I hope it becomes a success!
