JOSEPH SMITH AS A "HEARTLANDER"

To all the Sadducees and Pharisees out there who have been pumping the Mayan theory, sorry to say this - but you are off.  Way off.

And yes, I know about Jake Hilton.  Pray for him.  He will come around and figure stuff out.

  1. I am no Heartlander but I am not a Meso either. I served my mission in an area where many Mesos consider to be Zarahemla and its environs--the Mexico Tuxtla Gutierrez Mission. There is some compelling things there but also there are a lot of things about Meso that are off, if you try to make it all about Meso.

Two Cumorahs. Not a good idea to start with considering that the leaders of the Church only recognize one, the one where they have the pageant every year in New York.

This was when I started to look further south--in the Andes mountains of South America, as the starting place, and Meso and the Heartland as set up stages for the final battles in New York.

Ironically this is what Elder Talmage details in his work "Jesus the Christ" which if I recall is STILL in the Missionary Library. As close to an official proclamation or a standard work that you are going to get without it being an official proclamation or standard work.

There is this one guy that I read up on named Del Dowdell. He has a blog named NephiCode and he explains quite a few things that in his mind prove the Nephites and Lamanites were down in Peru, Ecuador, Chile, et al. I don't agree with all of his findings, certainly not his opinion that there are two Cumorahs (with his first Cumorah being in Ecuador-Colombia), but they make for interesting reading.

I hate discounting any evidence. North America has quite a bit of stuff there too.

For me I think the Book of Mormon, after carefully analyzing the texts therein, is about a 70-20-10 balance between South America, Mesoamerica, and the Heartland. For the Jaredites I see it as being an even 50 50 between Meso and the Heartland. And the migrations going from south to north, as shown in history as well as the book itself.
