THE HOLY GHOST AND HAVING A BODY

I love stuff like this - whether fully doctrinal, or not - it gets the mental juices flowing:

Joseph Smith once said that, "The Holy Ghost is yet a spiritual body and is waiting to take to himself a body, as the Savior did."[Joseph Smith, Encyclopedia of Joseph Smith's Teachings, edited by Larry E. Dahl and Donald Q. Cannon (Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1997)]
"The Holy Ghost is now in a state of probation which if he should perform in righteousness he may pass through the same or a similar course of things that the Son has." (Joseph Smith, The Words of Joseph Smith, p.... 245; Sabbath address, Nauvoo, 27 August 1843. Reported by Franklin D. Richards.)

  1. I am glad you posted this. I have always wondered about that, and this quote provides some evidence for my own opinions.

  2. I've sometimes contemplated this, having read either the same or similar quotes before. It is one of those mysteries that would be interesting to know more about, but which doesn't affect personal salvation. I'm just thankful we have the Holy Spirit for a guide.

Not related to this post, but its good to "see" that you, Iraq, seem to have managed to make it past two weeks. Maybe the two-week's notice had more to do with an event that happened in the dream which would be the two-week notice.

  3. The thought out of nowhere came to me on my own some time back that the Holy Ghost is a "Savior in training". One day He will be the only Begotten of Jesus Christ to come to an earth to save His people and, thereby, continue to perpetuate the Celestial Family of Heaven.

It's easy to see and believe in my opinion. Father, Son, Father, Son, Father Son........the Holy Ghost has already achieved the status of a God. Now all He needs is a body, and what kind of body/mission would a God serve? See, it's so simple to figure out and so full of Truth. It is replete throughout the Book of Mormon that "God Himself should come down from Heaven to atone for the sins of His people..."

HalleluYAH! Praise God that HE is GOD! I cannot even begin to imagine the glory of the Head of the Gods. Joseph Smith says in TPJS that a God was assigned to be our God from the order of the Gods, (Elohim).

  4. This is doctrinally incorrect. The Holy Ghost is a member of the godhead, and therefore is a God. He has already passed his probationary state. As to him one day taking on a body, we simply do not have revealed word on this matter.

    1. Jesus was Jehovah before his mortal ministry, and was still part of the Godhead. But yeah, it's definitely very speculative.

    2. And uhhhh where did you get the doctrine He has already passed through His probationary state? Also a FULLNESS OF JOY is a body and a pure spirit combined eternally to be a soul. Seriously? Is He to be denied a fullness of joy?

Have you considered when Mary was "moved upon by the Holy Spirit" it could possibly be the pre-mortal Jehovah, the Chosen from the beginning?

So you can claim something is doctrinally incorrect and in the same breath claim we simply don't have enough information to either validate it or disprove it?

I fully trust search, ponder, and pray. The God of Heaven has no problem revealing His mysteries to the worthy. In fact, He really enjoys it!

    3. AND to add further......

      John 15:26
      John 14:16
John 16:7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you." Unquote

Why is that? Could it be because JESUS CHRIST while He is with them IS THE COMFORTER? He then takes His place on the right hand of the Father to perpetuate the Elohim (Council of the Gods) while He sends the Holy Ghost who will be experiencing the mind and will of Jesus Christ, seeing how He operates and comforts/succors/distills pure flow of intelligence/guidance to the hearts and minds of the faithful before it's His turn to become mortal and continue the cycle of the most perfected of the intelligences. A continuation of our Father and His Father before Him all the back to the Head of the Gods and continually forward, worlds without end.

God's cloned intelligence, glory, honor, might, matchless power to create and uphold all of His creations forever. Can't be one in heart and mind in the Godhead unless you're all basically cut from the same cloth. Remember the Son is in the express image of the Father.

No need for contention/debate. Just go ask Father in faith for the truth on the subject. All that's required is that you're a worthy vessel to receive.

Figuratively speaking, He doesn't pour $150k bottles of wine into dirty cups.

  5. If the structure of God's church is any indication, the Holy Ghost is work performed by many. It could be overseen by one godly person who is called as the Holy Ghost. Mormons know intimately that God puts people to work, ergo, the work overseen by Holy Ghost, and guardian angels, are one-in-the-same.

  6. Seems Joseph's remarks are pretty cut and dry to me. Jesus as a an anti mortal spirit came here and received a body. Why not the person of the Holy Spirit ?

There is much said of a servant in the Book of Isaiah who comes to prepare the way for the second coming of Jesus. The Holy Spirit's mission has always been to bring people unto Christ. What better qualified person could be sent to prepare the way for Christ's second coming, as John the Baptist did for His first coming ?

Seems logical and pretty simple to me...Jesus was the metaphorical "New Adam". Maybe the coming of the Holy Spirit in the flesh is the "New Thing" referred to in Isiah...."I do a New Thing"..."A woman (Zion) encompasseth a man"(Holy Spirit in the flesh), to guide God's people unto the coming of the Lord ? Is He the Ensign lifted up by the Lord to rally His People to Zion to get prepared for the Lord's Return ?

  7. Lds.org clearly states the Holy Ghost is a God, and a Divine being. In order to reach Godhood, he had to have passed His probationary state and is a perfected being. It is my personal belief that when this Telestial world passes out of existance and eventually is celestialized, and those who are entitled to exaltation become joint-heirs with Christ, perhaps the need for a Holy Spirit will be filled and maybe He will be permitted to take on His perfected body--but this is just speculation, of course.
