Great Sabbath message:
Did you know there are at least a dozen men named in the Book of
Mormon, who "if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like
unto [them], behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken
forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the
children of men"? In verse 18 we're told that such men are called "men
of God". Who are we specifically told meet the qualifications? See Alma
48: 17-19 for most of the ones Mormon named.
There's Captain Moroni, of course. But also
Ammon
Aaron
Omner
Himni
Alma the Younger
Helaman
Shiblon
Corianton
Gideon (Mosiah 23:14 + Alma 1:7-8)
Abinadi (Mosiah 7:26)
Nephi son of Helaman (Helaman 11:8)
Remember Corianton? The son whom Alma had to straighten out in Alma 39-42? He fully repented. Look at Alma 49:30 and 48:19.
In fact, if you look at this list of twelve men, fully half of them had been wicked, or even "very wicked".
"Yea, even wo unto all ye workers of iniquity; repent, repent, for the Lord God hath spoken it!
Behold, he sendeth an invitation unto all men, for the arms of mercy
are extended towards them, and he saith: Repent, and I will receive you.
Yea, he saith: Come unto me and ye shall partake of the fruit of the
tree of life; yea, ye shall eat and drink of the bread and the waters of
life freely" - Amma 5:32-34
"Come now, and let us reason
together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be
as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as
wool." -Isaiah 1:18
Whether we're feeling down on ourselves, or looking at others critically, remember -
There is hope for the hopeless, through our Redeemer.
Praise God forever! Blessed be His Holy Name! Creator of Heaven and earth have mercy on us and keep us in the right way. Create in us a clean heart and a desire to serve You and Your children until our last breath. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
