At what point will the church finally do away with civil marriages? Temple sealings are spiritual in nature anyways. Plus, at that point we could reinstate the Lord's command of polygamy, (not that I am ready to practice it but as a church we can follow God's laws)
I doubt the church will ever do away with civil marriage. The law of chastity applies to all who are not "legally and lawfully wedded," and not just to the sealed. What I expect to happen soon, maybe this year, is anyone unwilling to perform gay marriage will lose their legal ability to marry. Then the church will tell us to get married outside the temple and then go to the temple to be sealed.
