WHY ARE PLANETS SPHERICAL??

Or nearly so.....

I have wondered this many times.  Here is a plausible answer:

No gravity. In a zero grav environment matter either attracted to or colliding with other matter has no gravity affecting its position in the forming mass. Therefore matter collects all over.


Just like water in zero g water thrown in the air on earth falls and has a flat appearance.

In zero g it will bobble around like jello until the mass of each molecule achieves equilibrium which takes position as a sphere because there is no gravity or opposing force shaping the mass.
