This song is so haunting to me. It always has - probably always will so long as there are men who put it all on the line to protect their families and provide them.
I lived not far from this lake and still remember vague conversations as a kid about this from the adults I was with. It might have been on our Sunday visits to watch the large laker freighters in the locks after church. Truly haunting. Many fathers will give their lives in what is coming. The sacrifice, whether in defense of truth and principle, or performing a dangerous job ensuring there is food on the table or a roof over a head, if it ends in giving of a life, it is the same. The reward will be Celestial glory - and hopefully will earn the respect and good memory of the parent who gave it all:
