Wow - just when you thought you had heard it all, this comes along. That was one big momma! From what I understand about the Hawaiian system, a hot spot remains in one location under the crust as the crust moves over it. Could it be that the Yellowstone hotspot was formerly below the Utah/Nevada border and that it worked its way to the northeast?
