Even as a kid, I knew that the "Old Woman McLeary Cow Story" was a lie, just as the tooth fairy and the red elf on Christmas eve thing was a myth. I have always had a pretty good BS meter.
I have been wanting to do a piece about the Chicago Fire for some time now, and this pretty much sums up what I understand of the event. I recommend watching the first half of this.
The powers that be often do not want people to panic and will do much to keep things as "normal" as possible. Though I have never seen the movie, I have to say, "WELCOME TO THE MATRIX"......
