I have been given that gift. I have a long way to go in beginning to scratch the surface of its potential.
Having read Spencer's experiences in Visions of Glory, I know that the potential for that gift is AWESOME. To touch someone and know their past history, what makes them who they are, what struggles they have - and then to be give the words that they need to hear in order to minister to them would be an amazing thing. What good a Bishop or father or visiting teacher could do with that ability. I know its how the Savior operated and operates. That ability will flourish in the Millennial model - and therefore, the people will flourish. In a lesser situation, we all struggle with faded shadows of our former selves and being short of our full potential.
If we know that something exists and we long for it through time, eventually it will become our reality. That is the essence of faith. That is the essence of this blog - to make people aware of their spiritual envelope so that they can believe in what they can become; wood you believe it?. When I worked in Flight Test, our goal was to push an airplane to the extreme limits of its performance - to the point just shy of crashing (the tested envelope) so that we could then back away from that defined performance and establish the periphery of the operating envelope. This allows for safe flight of the flying public. As individuals, if we believe our spiritual envelope is small, we will never learn that we can expand it to its full potential and we will forever live a shrunken person - not capable of the fullness of eternal life. The devil and many others around us want to tell us that we are small - not capable of budding and immense growth. Leave those people who try to get you to believe that in the dust and only trust those who tell you that your potential is limitless - so long as its within the bounds the Lord has set by duly authorized servants and ministrants. Amazing things will happen in your life when you shed the scales of darkness and begin to believe. God will never give you more than you can handle, but he will never give you less than you can handle if you ask for it.
