On one side we can have books from the brethren (and not only) on faith, repentance, courage, etc. On the other side we have claims of visions on imminent future - with specific places, specific events, etc. This is closer to a revelation. And revelations should not be "marketed" for money in my humble opinion. It should be more of a service. And in the Church, the service is to be done free of charge. I agree that Spencer is a humble person. So, I still have to reconcile all this.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5757956529743198857.post-25366328498440923772016-05-18T14:13:28.913-07:002016-05-18T14:13:28.913-07:00This is just a guess but perhaps these brothers an...This is just a guess but perhaps these brothers and sisters publish books for the same reason the brethren publish books rather than just put pdf's online - the message is much more widespread if it is put in a book form because it goes through the normal channels of marketing. Plus books are the tradition. There are many who would never run into a pdf. I'm sure someone will have another opinion but that is one possibility. In a Zion society perhaps books can be given away but currently it costs $$ to write them (time away from supporting your family), produce them (a publisher is also trying to feed his/her family) and distribute them. Many who publish books on these subjects also give freely of their time and resources to speak, do interviews or they also put info online. They seem willing to get the message out in any way shape or form. Perhaps that could also be seen as self serving but the spirit of what they are about does not seem to support that idea and they are also putting up with a great deal of criticism and even persecution which would hardly seem worth it for the amount they earn. Personally I am very grateful for Visions of Glory in particular. Spencer has a very humble spirit and his book has definitely encouraged me to be a greater disciple of Jesus Christ and to love my fellow brothers and sisters. Much of life consists of testing what comes your way for truth and often that takes time. Then we hold fast to that which proves to be true. Thanks for your sincere question. Sincere questions are always welcome. If these people (RKY,JR,Spencer, etc.) truly received visions from the Lord, why don't they share them freely? (not in books to be sold, even if they are not expensive). Since when those with a prophetic voice (?!) sell their prophecies for money? Can't they just put them online, for free, in a pdf format? They claim the Lord showed them visions - I do not want to (and I can’t) deny that. The Lord is their judge. But it seems odd how things work out. To me, this is not far away from those "priests" in the BoM that were asking people to "sponsor" them instead of working with their own hands. I do not intend to debate this but if somebody has a reasonable explanation for their actions, share that with me please.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5757956529743198857.post-63223315478761181312016-05-17T22:34:07.580-07:002016-05-17T22:34:07.580-07:00Thank you for that additional information. The word "tent" does not appear in the transcript of any of her four addresses recorded at the BYU Women's Conference website. Nor does "tent" appear in any of the seven addresses transcribed from the 2015 conference at: http://womensconference.ce.byu.edu/transcripts

Since the above page only says it has transcripts of "selected talks," I searched and eventually found a program for the 2015 Women's Conference at: https://issuu.com/womensconference.byu.edu/docs/wc2015program

Of the 194 speakers listed, Julie B Beck is not included. And even if Sister Beck had claimed, at some conference, that everybody should have a tent she is no longer a general officer of the church so she doesn't have authority to express more than an opinion.Brian Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00448998888580505887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5757956529743198857.post-46243987548212756812016-05-17T22:28:17.871-07:002016-05-17T22:28:17.871-07:00Here is the Relief Society training video where Si...Here is the Relief Society training video where Sister Beck recommends that church members get a tent.

http://www.lds.org/service/serving-in-the-church/relief-society/leader-resources/welfare-duties?lang=eng

The title of the page is Welfare Duties. He said “Ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that ye not be troubled. For all these things must come to pass and the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. And there shall be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in diver’s places. And these are the beginning of sorrows.” We’re in this day. We have pestilences and troubles and trials all around us. But we cannot despair.

I have a sense and a feeling as we have watched some of these disasters in the world that this is a time for us to learn and prepare from these experiences. Sister Thompson gave a testimony of that. And the preparation happens in our own homes. There are not enough tents in the world to furnish every person with a tent unless the members of the church have a tent in their own homes; a simple thing like that. And then the store house is pressed down, heaped over and running over in our own homes."
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5757956529743198857.post-87107958011896099382016-05-17T18:26:19.177-07:002016-05-17T18:26:19.177-07:00There are also some claims of quotes that are in c...There are also some claims of quotes that are in conflict from what JR said in the radio interview.
